Stealing an idea from various players, but most specifically Glinda! That is, I've seen people doing things to keep track of all threads. Considering that four of my six characters have been here for over a year, these lists are obviously not going to be complete, but I can at least make an effort to keep track of threads from now on. So.

Let the organization begin! )

My universe hurts me. Image links under cut. )

So they kind of took something that would have been really awesome and made it horrible. First, ew ugly art. Out of all of that, there's only one or two panels that I'd like to add to my icons.

Aesthetics aside, I think it'd...actually be pretty cool for Dr. Strange to take Billy under his wing and shape him up to be the next Sorcerer Supreme. I'm pretty sure it won't happen, especially with Marvel's latest craze of "let's give all the power to the BAD GUYS." But it'd be cool. If Marvel had the patience to do a cute master/apprentice thing.

But really guys, Billy is smarter than to walk around in his civvies while wearing his cape.

Also, lightning is about the only magic Billy can consistently do without an incantation. And Billy doesn't need a Cloak of Levitation. He does it automatically when spellcasting whether he wants to or not. Pay attention to the source material, writers.

(Added note: Wiccan also doesn't appear in any of the official speculation, so yeah. I feel like I just got baited.)

This was apparently out in August and I missed it. Highlight follows:

Are there any plans for the Young Avengers after Secret Invasion?

Joe Quesada, Marvel comics editor: Writer Allan Heinberg and artist Jim Cheung are already hard at work on a project that heavily involves the Young Avengers that we're not ready to tell you about yet. But until we are ready, I expect the team will be turning up around the Marvel Universe as the situation demands.

I think the question now is whether or not this is the same vague "The Young Avengers will be back once Heinberg stops working somewhere else, honest!" that we've been getting since the last arc of the actual Young Avengers series ended.

Still, I'm giddy with excitement at the possibility.

So I just got another job. As a newspaper reporter. And I am now afraid that I will suddenly DISAPPEAR from threads and posts because oh god I know to go and get assignments from my editor when he calls my phone. While I have generally always had a tendency to randomly disappear and come back and disappear again in threads, I still feel I should say something to explain the possibility of this behavior.

Also what the hell I am going to actually be publishing shit. I AM A DELI CLERK I'm freaking out a little bit.

...Posted to this journal because it is the most ironic, with the Young Avengers series opening in mind.

Mm, new canon reminds me how awesome Tommy is and why someone needs to bring him back to camp.

Incidentally, never go on a field trip with Billy.

The other night in chan, I mentioned that I was amused that Wiccan's tendency to be an insensitive ass about Teddy's family has not only continued, but has actually come to include being an insensitive ass while pretending not to be wearing underwear. Some people mentioned that they had not noticed this.

Observe Young Avengers Presents #2.

Teddy discovers that his dead father is alive, transforms and flies off; Billy pops into costume by casting a quick illusion over himself.

A illusory costume that. Has see-through hips AND NOTHING UNDERNEATH? lol look no pantie lines.

The second installment of Young Avengers Presents is going on sale in about two weeks. Naturally this means it's PREVIEW TIME.

I'm seeing a lot of people excited about the art, and I'll admit that when I looked at the preview I was pleased to see that there might be more of a return of the whole team vibe the YA kids are supposed to have. And Kate was using a sword, which is cool because they never actually did anything with that since she was introduced.

But to tell the truth, the art makes me laugh. It is HILARIOUS. And I could make a few jokes about why it has fans so excited. For you see...

As much for my own reference as for everyone else (since at least nineteen of us got into the series through CFUD): after an incredibly long wait, Young Avengers will finally be getting new canon! It's not much--just a series of six one-shot issues focusing on the different YAers, but from what I've been reading, it's looking very interesting.

Young Avengers Presents #1: Patriot - January 23, 2008.
Young Avengers Presents #2: Hulkling - February 27, 2008.
Young Avengers Presents #3: Wiccan and Speed - March 26, 2008
Young Avengers Presents #4: Vision (and Cassie?) - April 23, 2008
Young Avengers Presents #5: Cassie - May 28, 2008

Oh Wiccan, you couldn't put up a "Keep Out" sign like an ordinary kid, could you. You had to go with a LotR quote. XD

Naturally, if I can, I will attempt to pimp.

Okay, it's been a long time since I've done a relationship meme. So I figure it's high time that I do one, but...I'm a sucker for finding out both sides of the relationship so...

Reverse relationship meme for Russel, Izumi, Nokoru, Imoen, and Billy. Comment here with what your characters think of mine, and I'll do the same for you. Or just tell me who you play and I'll tell you what my characters think of yours anyway. XD

Aaaaand GO.

A few things of note about Billy that I figured I ought to write out sometime...

First would be the twins thing--Except for hair color, clothing, powers and mannerisms, Billy and Tommy are apparrently identical. So identical the first thing that people who are familiar with him say when they see the two together is that the two could be twins. We actually even see Captain America specifically mistake Speed for Wiccan.

The resemblance is uncanny, especially when considering that Billy is from New York and Tommy is from...New Jersey, if I remember correctly. When the Vision says that Billy and Tommy are supposedly the twin sons of the Scarlet Witch (who, ironically, was Billy's favorite avenger). ...The father was the original version of the Vision. Speed reacts with understandable scepticism, but Billy whips up a whole theory on how their souls (which had, according to Vision, been absorbed by the demon Mephisto and were dispersed after hes distruction) were actually set free and ended up where they grew up. In writer interviews, they've been saying that it's only a theory, so since it's still unconfirmed as to whether or not this is true...it's entirely possible that this whole messed-up-soul thing is going on. The Marvel site even lists the Kaplans as Billy's "adopted" family, and the Scarlet Witch and her relatives as biological. (Grandson of Magneto?)

Second: I find "Wiccan" as a codename rather ironic, as I've read that Billy is actually supposed to be a Reform Jew. I myself observe no particular religious beliefs, so am extremely ignorant as to various important things that would figure into this aspect of a character. So poke me if I screw something up/forget/completely miss something.

Third--his powers! Billy is able to use his desires to cast spells. At this point, they haven't really defined a particular limit to his power. But canon suggests that certain things come easier to him than others. At this point, he can fly and generate lightning at will, but most things beyond that requires him to focus his power to achieve the desired effect with a mantra--he can cast a locating spell, for instance, by repeating "I want to find So-And-So." You can tell it's working because spellcasting causes at least his eyes to glow and if he wasn't flying before he started casting the spell, he'll begin to levitate anyway. Unless he's in a crossover, it seems. Now, this may simply be a matter of how much they can fit into a speech bubble, but it seems to take a lot more effort for him to, say, bring down Kang's shield, than it takes to cast a spell putting Patriot to sleep. Furthermore, his spells don't always work--he tries healing the Super Skrull's injuries once, and we get the light show and everything, but it's just a light show. Billy suggests that it might not work because even though he's going through all the motions, he doesn't actually want to heal the skrull.

So. I figure it would be safe to say that his power is limited, if only in that it's not fully developed. Despite what the "Wiccan vs. Insert Name Here" discussions I've seen, I do not think it would be within his power to, say, wish someone dead. (Even if it was within his power, he wouldn't want to kill someone, so it still wouldn't work. ...Except perhaps under extremely extenuating circumstances. You touched Teddy?)

Billy seems to prefer playing a supportive role in the team anyway, typically using his powers to manuever things into a situation in which the rest of the team could easily neutralize the threat.

On a fairly unrelated note, the two Civil War storylines being released right now both just had Billy get captured by the Pro-Registration forces. The YA/Runaways crossover takes place before the battle Billy gets captured in in the main Civil War storyline, though, and there's the possibility that Billy has been released and has escaped. I don't expect to find out anytime soon, though, so until otherwise demonstrated, I was planning on going with that. I'm assuming my twin will let me know if there's a problem with that!

Final note: Billy's username is based on a canon gay joke; Billy started his superhero career modeling himself after Thor, going so far as to make his codename "Asgardian." His teammates pointed out that since Billy has a boyfriend, he should change the codename before a certain pun becomes a "national joke."

And so, Billy is [info]ass_guardian.

App.
Character: Billy Kaplan aka "Wiccan"
Series: Young Avengers
Character Age: 16
Canon: A "nubile" member of the Young Avengers, Billy is Tommy Shepherd's long-lost soul twin, which sometimes results in humorous identity mix-ups despite obvious differences in character design. As a person, Billy is basically a geek; a blatant Avengers fan who unknowingly fanboys his own spirit mother. He spends most of his time interjecting dry, witty comments about the things going on around him—even dabbling in a little meta humor—and generally acting like a cute little puppy with his alien shape-shifting boyfriend, Teddy. He's also a touch too gullible for his own good.

As a superhero, Wiccan is a hapless witch/warlock (he can’t seem to decide which term he prefers) who is learning to control his powers using techniques garnered from Teddy's mother's self-help books. Recently, he's also developed an unfortunate habit of getting repeatedly captured.

Sample Post: I think you guys might have a zombie problem. Maybe. I mean, I was trying to find To—er, Speed—with a locator spell, and they swarmed me like superheroes on a major crossover event. So I tried zapping them away with a spell—you know, "I want the zombies to go away," that kind of thing. And that's when they gave me the brochure and pointed out that magic attracts the zombies. So letting me get rid of them with magic would be a blatant retcon and wouldn't be allowed. Luckily, we were able to strike a deal. I, uh . . . let them dress me up in the camp track suit and give me a swirly, and they'll leave me alone. Man, my mom lectured me about the psychological damage that harassment from zombies can do to a teenager. "It's a real problem. You'll develop corporophobia—that's a fear of going to the bathroom, you should look it up—and studies show that because of the zombies, it'll be especially debilitating at funerals. You won't even be able to attend your own parent's funerals." Thanks, Mom.

I'll admit that the whole encounter with the zombies was kinda disappointing. Definitely not what most people would expect from a superhero. After all, who'd entrust their safety to a boy who just had a bunch of walking corpses give him a swirly? But I'm one of the Young Avengers, so be assured: I can still help you out with your standard caped superhero stuff. Like saving kittens from trees, that one's easy. Stopping people with guns . . . is doable? We’re still ironing out a few little details. So if you need me to help you out with anything, I'm Wiccan—and I don't mean the religion, it's just my codename. It does mean I'm a witch, but please keep in mind that I'm not of the melting variety of witches. It's okay for me to get wet, I'd just rather not to. It'll make my track suit cling.

Oh, and as long as we're on the subject of the Young Avengers, there should be another one of the team around here, a guy who goes by "Speed." If you see him, let him know that I'm looking for him, and that Patriot said he's still not allowed to vaporize anyone. . . . I think that’s everything.

Oops, hang on. There is one last thing. Heh, I almost forgot. If I can have your attention again for just a moment, there's . . . oh. I guess you're all busy. Uh, that's okay, it can probably wait.

. . .

I want my tights back.
